Chiang Mai, it seems, is a place that needs to be properly explored to be properly enjoyed. There are quaint cafes to be found, the riverside seems pretty lovely, and a good number of the over thousand wats to be found in the city are no less nearer than the famous ones yet a whole lot less touristy. Of course, being on a company trip meant I was hurriedly shuffled from one tourist spot to the next aboard a tour bus.
Still, I saw what I saw and there’s still plenty to be seen if you can ignore the hordes of tourists (a lot of Aussies on summer vacation, I reckon). Guess I’ve got a new tagline: Have camera, will explore. Even if I never did have a chance to get off the tourist-beaten track.
