To you, who may be reading this
Do you know where your resolutions are tonight? Are they standing proudly on the mantelpiece, proof of a year’s determined work, or are they long gone, now nothing more than debris to be swept under the carpet (even though you’d told yourself you’d start cleaning the house properly 12 months ago and have since succeeded in doing that for all of one time)?
I must admit – I’ve never much been one for resolutions. Distinct objectives defined as short-term goals aren’t quite how I work (except when I’m at work). But I guess I have pretty much spent the past three decades slowly yet resolutely shaping my life around one central idea:
Build a home.
Furnish it with love.
I suppose I’m not quite there yet. There’s still more to be done in the apartment I stay in, and a whole lot more I could do for the world I live in. Yeah, my life’s a work in progress.
Here’s to 2010, and the hope it will see a lot more caring, and sharing, and sustainable living – after all, everyone one of us is actually living under one big roof. And remember, it’s not what the new year brings that will make it a good one – it’s what we do with it.
Happy new year.
With love,
