The Dance of Dinner @ twenty·one

My eyes looked thirstily at the drinks. Ah, but I musn’t. Not when I’ve only just recovered from a week’s worth of medical leave due to severe… dizziness. Lame, no?

Still, I figured it was time to ease myself back into gear and maybe share a Twenty0ne Degrees with Ry. Bad decision. Should have had a whole glass all for myself! *smacks lips*

And so I went on to distract my thoughts before I got “spirited” away, and focused on the food – which wasn’t a problem, really. The asparagus with hollandaise aioli was quite a delight. And the wild mushroom soup! I like my soups thick so this one really took the cake – and how! It had texture as if  a small basket of shrooms had been blended with a bit of cream just to make that one bowl of soup. Yums.

As is usually the case when I dine with qwazymonkey and gang, we had a spread before us and swapped the food about. Kinda like those English balls where the dancers keep swapping partners (I believe they call it swing parties over at the States). So anyway, there was always something or other landing on my plate – a cut of braised lamb shank, slivers of braised beef cheek, even a curry-esque spicy lamb linguini. Very high society, no? And I haven’t even mentioned all this was happening to the grooves of house beats (twentyone being a bar with dining, after all).

For all that, what truly stood out for me was the good ol’ beef burger. Yes, call me kampung boy, but I do love me burgers. Especially when it’s oh so juicy and mega-oniony (no, I don’t think that’s a real word, though it’s quite useful), and the one they served that night was all that and more. Thumbs up (and lick the grease off)!

As the night drew on, the other patrons were charging up at the bar, while we wound down with desserts. We tried the baked dark chocolate ganache as well as a passionfruit mousse. The chocolate ganache was quite a creative concoction that combined not just different chocolates but different textures as well, that gave a bit of fun for the tongue. The passionfruit mousse would probably be too sour for some, but being a sourpot myself, I quite enjoyed that sweet-sour tang in my mouth.

Well, now that dinner is done, and I’m left to my thoughts again, I’m in a parched mood once more. One day I’m gonna have to draft a few drinking buddies and go explore the other side (aka the bar side) of twentyone tables+terrace. After all, I hear they’ve got 1 for 1 drinks going on during happy hours (lasting a generous 5 hours all week long). And can this be true, some days they even serve up free munchies as well? Score! So who wants to hangout one of these days – the food is on the house and the drinks are on me!*
