To my friends who complain I don’t have them over for dinner anymore, well don’t feel bad – I’m impartial when it comes to not having anyone over these days, so everyone’s been equally left out! Okay, so it’s mainly because I’m just too lazy to make my apartment presentable but there’s also the fact that I’m getting rather uninspired to cook full-on meals in that rather ad hoc kitchen of mine.

Yeah, I’ve been talking about saving up for a proper kitchen makeover the last 4 years or so. But I have to admit that every time the savings start building up, it gets splurged on gadget buys – like a laptop to replace a dead desktop, another laptop to replace that laptop which died as well, a phone to replace a dying phone… the list goes on (thankfully not much farther than that). Technology stuff definitely have too short a lifespan to be sustainable

But once in a while, life throws you a ball just when you need it, like last year when Air Asia launched their London route with really cheap tickets. Or like this weekend, when Fagor threw a warehouse sale. Perhaps the universe was dropping a huge hint at me that my kitchen setup was way overdue? For sure.

So with the excuse that I now had some extra cash thanks to a certain cancelled indefinitely postponed concert, I went ahead and got myself a hood, a hob and an oven, all for well under 2k. Obviously, the refunded concert ticket was far from enough to cover all of this, but it was a bargain nonetheless.

Does this mean I can now throw a dinner party? Well, no. What it means is I now have built-in appliances with nothing to build them into. Hence, I need to finally proceed with my kitchen cabinet plan pronto. Hence, I now have to count the eggs in my year-end bonus basket before they hatch.

In the meantime, I guess I need to search for affordable cabinets (affordable by my standards mean basic, non-high quality, as-long-as-it-functions kind of range). And think about the layout and design (what have I been doing all the years I’ve been “saving for my kitchen”, I don’t know). Hmm… a countertop built with Lego blocks would be nice, wouldn’t it?

I wanna say I wish I had more time and more money but I’ve been spending time and money on other things anyway. So it’s now or never. As my high school motto goes, nunc aut nunquam!

Well, if things do go as planned, my friends will finally get that long-awaited invite to come over for a meal in time to celebrate new year chinese new year my birthday.
